What is a public IP address?
- A public IP address is the address the rest of the internet uses to reach your network. This page looks up IPv4 and IPv6 from your browser so localhost addresses such as ::1 are not shown.
Why might this differ from the IP my ISP shows?
- Carrier-grade NAT, a VPN, a proxy, a mobile network, or IPv6 vs IPv4 can all change the address other sites see. The value here is the public address observed by this site, not an address assigned only inside your home network.
Do you store my IP address?
- No. This tool displays details for the current request in your browser. Raw IP addresses are not stored as a result of using this page.
IPv4 or IPv6 — which one is shown?
- We show both when we can. IPv4 is looked up over an IPv4-only connection; IPv6 is looked up separately. A network without IPv6 will only show IPv4.
